Weddings are powerful rituals no matter what form is used. Choosing the right one for you can make the difference between a meaningful event and one that's not quite what you had in mind. Whatever you choose, I hope your ceremony will be the beginning of a life filled with love, good health, and laughter.
Joining of Hands
For many years, couples have been holding each other’s hands as they join in marriage, symbolising not only their love but also their connection and joining. The simple act of holding hands whilst exchanging vows never fails to touch couples, families and friends.
Giving or Exchanging of Rings
Since time immemorial, this traditional ceremony represents the vows and promises that the couple have exchanged. The circle shape of the ring is a symbol of eternity and never ending and immortal love.
Hand Fasting
An old traditional Pagan style wedding ceremony – a joining of hands and joining of lives in communion with nature, friends and family using a combination of four elements of air, fire, water and earth. The couple’s hands are bound together with ceremonial cords, representing the binding as one of two separate lives.
.
Jumping The Broom
A fancy broom decorated with flowers, herbs and tokens is a symbol of fertility held parallel to the ground while the bride and groom leap over the broom to make their marriage fruitful.
Candle Ceremonies
Candles are particularly effective at evening and indoor ceremonies. The candles can be lit in various ways to represent the coming together of two people to live as one, or to reflect that the light from just one candle can be used to light many – reflecting and sharing that love with family and friends.
Sand Ceremony
This is a lovely way of involving the children in the celebration. The couple and their children hold their own coloured sand, and each person takes a turn pouring sand into a special glass vase, forming a multi-coloured layer, symbolising two families coming together as one new family in love and harmony.
Gemstones
Over the centuries, various cultures have contributed to the legend and lore surrounding gemstones. These rare products of nature have inspired philosophers and mystics to attribute unusual powers to these special minerals which can be used as part of the ceremony..
A Diamond is forever - the most traditional of gemstones.
Emerald for fertility
Garnet is regarded as the stone of passionate devotion; toward family, friends, the self, and purpose in life.
Opal is recognised as a stone strongly associated with the emotions, including love and passion.
Rose Quartz is known as the stone of "gentle love", bringing peace and calm to relationships.
Releasing..
Balloons, butterflies and doves are all often released after open-air ceremonies.
Signing Of A Certificate
A ceremonial certificate signed by both partners and two witnesses..
Themed Ceremonies
These may be chosen to reflect a couples shared interests and pursuits from Pirates to Harry Potter, from Fiesta to Fancy Dress, from Rapunzel to New Romantic – the list is endless..
Personal Ceremony
Your imagination – if you have an idea of your own – let’s do it! As we said at the beginning, the only limit is your imagination!
Family Traditions
There may be certain rituals which have been used in family weddings through the generations which can be woven into your ceremony.
Multi-Cultural or Multi Religious Rituals.
For couples from different cultures or religions, elements from each can be blended to give a truly personal ceremony involving both families.
It’s Only Words..
Many people choose to write their own words and vows, if you find this daunting, I am here to help, creating a ceremony which is personal to you using words you feel comfortable with. There are a huge number of readings and poems available and I will be happy to guide you to make your selection easier..
Music Matters
Music plays and important part in the life of most people. It has, after all, been quoted as ‘the food of love’! Music can evoke strong emotional connections on your special day – perhaps reminding you of your first date, or first dance.
